Best Day Ever, Indeed

I just checked out Brooke's blog and had to steal this video from her page. This is a truly awesome way to start a wedding!

Cavalier

Spring up the summer

Winter falls down

Seasons pass by

The year goes round

It’s hard to image what life really wants

Where are we going with all of our smarts?

People always tell us to plan for the future

So we can sit comfortably in our recliners

But I tend to think that the moment is now

Spend time with your friends don’t worry about how

Things will work out in some nutty way

You won’t expect it until one fateful day

I’ll send you a letter and out of the blue

You’ll remember the life at Cavalier, True

Nothing is the same as it was any more

We’ve all gone away and now struggle with war

War in our lives that once were so glorious

Those parties we had enormous, notorious

Places we’ve gone people we met,

We’ll all meet again, and I’m willing to bet

That even those times when we thought we were kings

Are nothing compared to the things we can bring

To this world as a team, a team like no other

For we are a family…a family of brothers

Cavalier will live on, beyond the scope of college

It’s more than a house; it’s a place of great knowledge

I’ve learned more about life and more of myself

Than any of those books now up on that shelf

So if there is any advice I can give you

It’s don’t worry so much, your soul will continue.

Response to viewing the movie: The Future of Food

I just got done watching The Future of Food Movie and wrote the following review on Hulu.com and thought I would share it here. You can watch the movie below:

Has anyone seen Total Recall? Do we really want our food supply controlled by just a few greed mongers?

Watching this movie was very eye opening. As a consumer, we tend to want to buy as much food for the cheapest price possible. That goes for most any product. We have a history of blissful ignorance when it comes to knowing how the food or product is made as long as we "save" a few bucks. We don't want to know that we are actually voting no for our own health every time we spend our dollars to feed ourselves with this food, and voting yes for greed, & exploitation of honest, hardworking people that used to be the backbone of our society.

What we don't realize is that for us to save a few bucks every time we shop, someone somewhere has to suffer a horrible tragedy...in this case, family farmers. In the long run, as those tragedies penetrate more aspects of more people's lives, we begin to see an increased cost in other areas that we all end up paying for. The health of the people of the world should not be so easily traded for economic gain. I'd rather have my food cost 3 times more knowing that I'm supporting my community, eating well, and staying healthy than "save" a few dollars now just to spend 10 times more years later on health care fighting some horrifying disease created in a lab somewhere to grow tomatoes more efficiently. And in the process I'd have the peace of mind to know I'm not screwing over a bunch of honest hard working people far away that I'll never meet by supporting the corporations that marginalized an entire industry for profit by changing the rules in their favor.

I simply can't believe that the supreme court in Canada ruled that that farmer infringed upon Monsanto's patent! How did we get to the point where we think we can patent nature? I wonder if anyone has thought to patent air yet? Perhaps some greedy Monsanto Executive will watch Total Recall and get the brilliant idea to patent Oxygen? Then everyone on earth will be forced to pay a tax for the air they breathe. If you don't pay on time...we'll just come over to your house and fill it with a genetically engineered air terminator chemical and BAM...game over.
We need more labeling, more regulation, and more safe guards in place in general for all things it seems nowadays, from agriculture to banking just to save us from destroying ourselves.

Phish Phrenzzy

Experiencing another Phish show last night at Shoreline after a 5 year drought had my friends and I reminiscing about the good 'ol days of college and what it was like at our very first Phish show at this very venue 10 years prior. Last night's experience was no where near as crazy and entrancing as that one thank GOD! Nonetheless, it was a great time with old friends and the music we love that brought us together. I was inspired this evening to re-read the poem I wrote 10 years ago after that first show, and reflect on how things are much different for us all in 2009 than they were in 1999. Although we are all now adults with jobs and bills and responcibilities, we've all seemed to manage to hold on to that ability to let loose and be taken over by the music and be free of any worldly concerns for a few hours. It is in that spirit that I thought I thought I'd share it here in cyberspace, with you...my 5 readers :)

Phish Phrenzzy

DIPPED IN THE SEA FOR A

BREATH OF FRESH AIR

SURROUNDED BY PHISH

SWIMMING OUT OF THIS WORLD

I LIGHT A CANDLE

SO I CAN SEE MY WAY THROUGH

ECXITED BY WHAT I AM GETTING CLOSER TO

TREE AND THE SPINNERS

ALL DANCING IN CIRCLES

NOW I FORGET ALL MY

WORRIES AND TROUBLES

I LET IT ALL GO IN ONE MIGHTY GUSH

IT MAKES ME FEEL FREE,

AN INCREDIBLE RUSH

THIS IS THE WONDERFUL SOUND OF LIFE

DANCING AND DARTING TOWARD THE LIGHTS

THIS IS THE JOYOUS FEELING OF HEAVEN

DEATH IS UPON US BUT I FEEL NO PAIN

THIS IS THE WONDERFUL SOUND OF LIFE

DANCING AND DARTING TOWARD THE LIGHTS

THIS IS THE JOYOUS FEELING OF HEAVEN

DEATH IS UPON ME BUT I FEEL NO PAIN

FINDING MY WAY

IN THIS PLACE IS CONFUSING

BUT SOONER OR LATER

IT WON’T BE MY CHOOSING

I RUN UP THE HILL

THEN BACK DOWN THEN BACK UP

WHERE AM I GOING?

I DON’T KNOW? I GIVE UP

OCCASIONALLY I RUN INTO MYSELF

BAFFLED BY WHAT I DO SEE

I LOOK AT THE BENDING IMAGE AND ASK

HEY, IS THAT REALLY ME?

THIS IS THE WONDERFUL SOUND OF LIFE

DANCING AND DARTING TOWARD THE LIGHTS

THIS IS THE JOYOUS FEELING OF HEAVEN

DEATH IS UPON US BUT I FEEL NO PAIN

THIS IS THE WONDERFUL SOUND OF LIFE

DANCING AND DARTING TOWARD THE LIGHTS

THIS IS THE JOYOUS FEELING OF HEAVEN

DEATH IS UPON ME BUT I FEEL NO PAIN

SEEING THE IMAGE

OF GODS ON THE SCREEN

SINGING AND SMILING

ALL THE WHILE I SCREAM

MY HEAD IS SILENTLY

ASKING FOR ANSWERS

HOW HAVE I COME BY THESE

WILD ENTRANCERS

I BEGIN TO SEE LIFE FROM MY BEGINNING

REMEMBERING MY FRIENDSHIPS

ALONG THE WAY

I’VE LED A GOOD LIFE

BUT NOW IT’S ALL OVER

THE LIGHTS ALL TURN ON

AND I ROLL BACK OVER

THIS IS THE WONDERFUL SOUND OF LIFE

DANCING AND DARTING TOWARD THE LIGHTS

THIS IS THE JOYOUS FEELING OF HEAVEN

DEATH IS UPON US BUT I FEEL NO PAIN

THIS IS THE WONDERFUL SOUND OF LIFE

DANCING AND DARTING TOWARD THE LIGHTS

THIS IS THE JOYOUS FEELING OF HEAVEN

DEATH IS UPON ME BUT I FEEL NO PAIN

NOW I STAND STILL

ON THIS HILL LOOKING DOWN

EVERYTHING SLOWLY TURNS UPSIDEDOWN

I REALIZE MY FATE IS WORSE THAN DEATH

HUMILIATION IS SILENT

RETURN OF MY BREATH

BACK TO REAL LIFE

I FALL BACK IN A SLUMBER

QUICKLY I SEE MY MISTAKE

WAS A BLUNDER

GREAT IT WAS THOUGH

I WILL NEVER FORGET

THAT CRAZY ZOO OF PEOPLE

AND THE ME THAT I MET

THIS IS THE WONDERFUL SOUND OF LIFE

DANCING AND DARTING TOWARD THE LIGHTS

THIS IS THE JOYOUS FEELING OF HEAVEN

DEATH IS UPON ME BUT I FEEL NO PAIN

THIS IS THE WONDERFUL SOUND OF LIFE

DANCING AND DARTING TOWARD THE LIGHTS

THIS IS THE JOYOUS FEELING OF HEAVEN

DEATH IS UPON ME BUT I FEEL NO PAIN

THIS IS THE WONDERFUL SOUND OF LIFE

DANCING AND DARTING TOWARD THE LIGHTS

THIS IS THE JOYOUS FEELING OF HEAVEN

DEATH IS UPON ME BUT I FEEL NO PAIN

THIS IS THE WONDERFUL SOUND OF LIFE

DANCING AND DARTING TOWARD THE LIGHTS

THIS IS THE JOYOUS FEELING OF HEAVEN

DEATH NOT UPON ME BUT STILL I FEEL PAIN

Phish to host 3 day Halloween Festival in So Cal

From the Phish.com website:

PHISH: FESTIVAL 8

We're thrilled to announce Festival 8, a three-day Phish festival which will take place on October 30th, 31st and November 1st at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. With lush green fields and palm trees, and surrounded by vistas of California's majestic Santa Rosa mountains, the festival site is simply breathtaking. And for the first time ever, Phish will combine two of its most cherished traditions - a multi-day camping festival and performing on Halloween - in a glorious three-day celebration.

Keeping the tradition of past Halloween shows, Phish will don a musical costume on Halloween night and cover another band's album. The tradition began on Halloween 1994 with Phish covering The Beatles' The White Album. In subsequent years, they covered The Who's Quadrophenia, Talking Heads' Remain in Light and the Velvet Underground's Loaded.

The band will play eight sets over the course of three days, and as with all past Phish festivals, fans will enjoy on-site camping, numerous attractions and art installations throughout the weekend.

Tickets for Festival 8 will go on sale Monday, July 27th at 10AM Pacific Time for $199 + $1 WaterWheel Donation (plus applicable service fees) via http://places.musictoday.com/festival8/ . This includes entry for all 3 days into the event area. All vehicles entering the Car Camping area must also purchase a $15 Vehicle Pass. Limited Car Camping is available. Gates will open for the event at NOON on Thursday, October 29th. Capacity is limited, so advance ticket purchase and carpooling is strongly encouraged.

We've created an official Festival 8 website at phish.com/festival8, where you can find exhaustingly detailed information about the event. We've posted the first wave of information about the festival and plan to update it regularly as more details are confirmed. Complete information, including a listing of different travel packages, is available at now at http://www.phish.com/festival8

PHISH SWIMS AGAIN!

Red Rocks Amphitheatre
July 30th – August 2nd, 2009 – 7:30pm

AEG Live is honored to announce four nights of PHISH performing live at Red Rocks Amphitheatre July 30 – August 2, 2009. Doors 6:00pm || Show 7:30pm

After much speculation it’s official, Phish returns to Red Rocks for a four-night stand in Colorado, marking its first shows at the legendary venue in more than 13 years. The announcement comes on the heels of the band’s three-night stand at Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, VA last weekend. “Over a massive, four-hour set, guitarist Trey Anastasio, bassist Mike Gordon, drummer Jon Fishman and keyboardist Page McConnell ripped through dozens of crowd-favorites,” said rollingstone.com. “They kicked things off with some of their most compositionally complex tunes, from the knotted prog-funk of ‘Fluffhead’ to ‘Divided Sky,’ where the group’s quiet, mellifluous interplay of guitar, drums, bass and keys suggests they’re as well-oiled of a machine as they’ve ever been.” The New York Times, which ran two features on the concerts, noted: “as the opening passage of the anthem ‘Fluffhead’ enveloped the room, the eruption of exultation was not merely for the band itself but also for the millions in the Phish diaspora who make up perhaps the most fervent fandom in pop music.”

The band has already recorded demos of 20 new songs and will enter the studio in April to begin work on its new album with Steve Lillywhite (U2, Rolling Stones, Dave Matthews Band), who produced Phish’s 1996 album, Billy Breathes. Formed at the University of Vermont in 1983, the Grammy-nominated band was included in the Top 10 Grossing Concert Tours in North America from 1995-2000 and from 2002-2004. Phish has released 11 studio albums, six concert videos and a series of 44 complete live concert CDs, including 13 on its own JEMP Records. Its series of full concert downloads on livephish.com, the band’s digital download store, currently totals 91.

TICKETS GO ON SALE THURSDAY, MARCH 26th at NOON online at www.ticketmaster.com, at all Ticketmaster outlets including select Macy’s stores, select F-Y-E stores, Cherry Creek Shopping Center guest services desk, the Official Visitors Center, 1600 California St. Ste. 6, Angelo’s CD’s & More and Twist & Shout. Ticket center hours may vary; contact retailer to confirm hours of operation. To charge tickets by phone, call 1-800-745-3000.

MY THOUGHTS

There were some really big words in this article that probably many Phish fans would not even understand! Luckily I am one of the more highly edumacted among them so I understood it perfect :)

Dude, I did not know they have 20 new songs and are recording a new album!? That is so cool! Maybe my 20's can live on into my 30's and God is trying to tell me something. "Did you see what GOOODD just did to us man?!" LOL...ahh Fear and Loathing.

But seriously...I listened for the first time to the MP3s from two weekends ago, those 3 shows at Hampton the article refers to, and he is right on the money. They started out with 4 of their most difficult songs and totally nailed them! Also, I've been to a lot of concerts in my day, but rarely if ever have I heard a crowd roar the way they do when Phish takes the stage for the first time after 5 long years. I gave me goose bumps!! You can download them for free here: http://www.livephish.com/default.aspx?affid=9

It's hard to explain, but something about their music is just so freeing for me. Not everyone gets it, but for me it's just so pure it's almost childlike. Not in the immature way, but in that being a kid is so fun because you can take things that are so silly and ridiculous to an 'experienced' adult, and make them so fantastic in your mind! You can go to a place where letting go of what makes sense and is normal feels so right, and you surrender to the flow.

There will probably be a million people requesting tickets for the Red Rocks shows. Literally. 13 years since they played there! I would not be surprised if they make some sort of DVD documentary out of this. Phish Swims Again!! Maybe I'll get interviewed and blabber into the camera about the story of creation or the 7th Star Wars film. I'll think I sound like a futuristic prophet but when I watch the video I'll just look silly. Can't wait for that part!!

Monster Booty

Recently, I visited my friend Dustin in Reno to do some snowboarding and he introduced me to a CD he had purchase from Amazon. This particular CD didn't seem to be music that would fit with Dustin's usual musical tastes (although he does appreciate most music) so when I questioned him on why he purchased it and he told me it was ONLY because of a single user's set of 3 reviews on the CD that he felt obligated to buy it...I needed to see these reviews. Note the dates of the reviews...this guy reviewed the same CD 3 times over a 6 year period! This guy has dedication that we can all admire!

This CD has all the best BOOTY! song of all time including all time classics such as, Do Me!, Booty, Pull up to the Bumper, and (my personal favorite) Butt. You need to put your mug on this badonkadonk, saddle up and ride it. This album ain't goin' platinum, it's goin' DOUBLE URANIUM!!

BOOTY! (The Final Chapter), February 3, 2007 By Alan "bootyologist" (V-TOWN) -
With the rise of the iPod and other mp3 devices, CD sales are at an all-time low, and with only two copies of Monster Booty left, it looks like this could be my last review for this CD. I don't know how many times I can rave about this CD...R.Kelly pisses on little girls and has a song entitled Bump N' Grind on here. This CD can set the mood for any occasion...sex, late night booty calls, clubbin', pre-game, sex, dinners with the family, etc. Baby Got Back sets the tone of the CD right from the first track, and it continues throughout the album with other great hits, such as Wiggle It, Do Me!, Da Booty, Pull Up To The Bumper, and Booti Call. My first review for this album was 6 years ago, and throughout those 6 years, my taste in music has changed, but if there's one CD I can always pop in and listen to, it is Monster Booty. If I still haven't convinced you to purchase this CD, do yourself a favor and use the Amazon Music Sampler tool and listen to Da Butt. It should speak for itself. If you have never tasted brown sugar before, listening to this CD is as close as you can get. I hope you take my reviews into consideration and purchase this album. SHIZZAM!
